Indianapolis Colts Battle Atlanta Falcons in Berlin – NFL Week 10

Guten tag, fussball enthusiasts. How are you? Alles klar I hope on this fine morning kickoff to week 10 coming straight outta Germany. The Olympiastadion in Berlin to be precise where at 9:30 AM EST and 2:30 PM GMT the mighty Colts (7-2) face off against the Falcons (3-5). The fifth game played on soil in Germany and the initial in the capital city.

Pre-match Key Moments

As sparkly jackets go that is an absolute belter from the Olympic figure skater on the opening flip. A slight fluff from the broadcast team there as we hear “which team got the coin flip?” from the presenter with an unfortunately hot mic.

So, the Colts have won the toss and have elected to receive. The Colts' offense will be setting up shortly. Will the QB bounce back after a difficult performance in their last game?

Not to be outdone the singer belting out the US national anthem has some of the largest shoulder pads you are bound to notice. Loving the sartorial choices today. The game is about to start after a choir performance for the German anthem. Elegant.

First Quarter Action

Colts 0-0 Falcons 13:30, 1st quarter

And we're off! And we have an exciting start after the Colts running back catches a screen pass, gains 15 yards on the outside to the right then loses the ball … only for his offensive lineman to recover the fumble with the recovery. Indianapolis quickly moves into Atlanta's half.

Colts 0-0 Falcons 10:51, 1st quarter

And the excitement continues as the Colts go for it on 4th down. The risk doesn't work out as Josh Downs fails to catch a quick pass from the quarterback. Prior to the failed attempt the Falcons defender put a huge hit on tight end Mo Alie-Cox. The Falcons have come out fighting on defense as they attempt to end their three-game losing streak. Next up Sauce Garner’s debut!

Score Recap

First score: Colts lead 6-0 at 8:36

Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The tight end drops a clanger, he was wide open but the ball just swishes through his hands. That play rather sums up the high draft pick's professional journey to date.

So far, so disappointing but it only gets worse for the Falcons as they turn over possession to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard mark. Michael Penix Jr is hunted down and fumbles the football.

An agile 22-yard rush from Ashton Dulin sets Jonathan Taylor up to easily run for a touchdown on the following play. Kicker Michael Badgley skews the extra point wide. Oops.

TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-7 Falcons 6:07, 1st quarter

Penix Jr puts the fumble behind him by marching his Falcons down the field for a touchdown. The wide receiver makes some substantial catches to put them in the red zone then the defense opens up for the running back to saunter on to the goal line through the middle of the defense for a 13-yard gain. The running back finishes it off for a short scoring run of his own. The Falcons take the lead.

Other Week 10 Games

And for afters, the jumbo package starting at 1 PM EST and 6 PM GMT (home teams listed first) is as follows:

  • (5-4) Panthers v New Orleans Saints (1-8)

  • (5-3) Bears v New York Giants (2-7)

  • (3-5) Texans v Jacksonville Jaguars (5-3)

  • (2-7) Miami Dolphins v Bills (6-2)

  • (4-4) Vikings v Ravens (3-5)

  • (1-7) Jets v Cleveland Browns (2-6)

  • (6-2) Buccaneers v Patriots (7-2)

An exciting lineup. My pick for the best game is the Vikings and Ravens playing out the top contest of the day.
