Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Military Operations.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a significant and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone near the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is uncertain and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had intercepted several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations linked to the the regime, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the leadership.

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted wreckage fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
