Los Angeles Battles Record-Breaking High Temperatures Only Days After Major Winter Weather.
Following a week of heavy downpours that led to inundation across sections of the city, the City of Angels is now seeing unseasonably hot temperatures for late February.
All-Time High Temperatures
During the day Friday, the mercury climbed to 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in the city center, per data from the National Weather Service. This easily surpasses the old record for February 27th, which was 31 degrees Celsius (88 Fahrenheit) and was established in the previous year.
"Very warm conditions" were highlighted on official charts for the region.
Public Health Alerts
The weather service cautioned that Friday's heat posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for vulnerable populations. Their guidance suggested:
- Drinking plenty of fluids.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
- Not leaving anyone unattended in a hot car.
A Sharp Weather Swing
This dramatic increase in mercury arrives just after a intense storm system that battered the state recently. That event brought high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to higher elevations, leading to evacuation orders for millions residents.

Weekend Outlook
The outlook suggests cooler conditions will arrive. The heat were forecast to decrease to around 16 degrees Celsius (61 Fahrenheit) in the city by overnight.
Additional areas that hit ninety degrees included Burbank, Woodland Hills, and Long Beach. Additionally, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were projected to see the upper eighties.
For the weekend, downtown Los Angeles can see readings in the 80s, with cooler weather likely for the following week.
