Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
