Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to England's Injury Worries.

'Major setback' for England after Atkinson goes off with a hamstring injury.

The pace bowler increased the fitness woes of the England squad upon exiting the ground early on day two in the Melbourne Test against Australia.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his left leg immediately following a delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.

The England team stated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and would spend time on the sidelines for further assessment "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the tour in Sydney starts on Sunday, 4 January.

England have been without strike bowlers one seamer due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was called up as injury reinforcement.

His form was underwhelming in the opening two Tests, managing only three wickets.

He was omitted from the previous Test, then recalled for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.

Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman among just a trio of teammates to reach double figures.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he returned the next day and removed Scott Boland Scott Boland caught behind.

However, at the end of that over, he delivered a variation to the batsman and promptly felt his left hamstring.

The English bowler was recalled for the Boxing Day Test after being left out the Adelaide game.
