The midfielder Crosses on corner kicks and set-plays caused problems. Enjoyed freedom to drift on the left only to be in an offside position when the ball arrived in shooting positions. Granted a well-earned rest after an hour. Six

The star midfielder Operated in a high role out wide while also contributed with dirty work. Displayed glimpses of brilliance and scuffed an effort wide. Replaced towards the end by Rogers, a fellow player, following a yellow card. Seven

The winger Had England’s best chance of the first half, his shot excellently kept out by the opposing goalkeeper. With Quansah staying deep, it fell to him to offer an outlet on the right yet his deliveries into the box were hit and miss. Substituted late in the match. 6

Harry Kane The difference-maker with his seventy-seventh and seventy-eighth goals at international level. His first a classic close-range tap-in and the second a classy headed goal after peeling away off his defender. At 32, he’s only getting better and the side have every chance next summer with him leading the line. Eight

The attacker Found it tough to get into the game on the left flank. Was presented with a presentable chance when set up from a teammate but Strakosha denied him. His replacement had a greater effect when substituted. 5
